What to do in La Valle, Hiking Village

In the surroundings of the Hotel Ciurnadù there is a world of possibilities for a memorable mountain holiday during all seasons. Between the imposing peaks of the South Tyrolean Dolomites and unspoiled nature, you will find many opportunities for panoramic hikes, high-altitude adventures, cultural explorations and motorbike and bike itineraries.

From trails to ski slopes, to the discovery of traditions and local flavours, you have many options to satisfy every desire and make your stay an unforgettable experience.

When the snow melts at certain altitudes, let yourself be thrilled by the rebirth of nature by exploring the treasures of the Fanes Senes Braies Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, through more or less demanding walks. Some paths start right at the hotel, such as path 16 towards the Sanctuary of Santa Croce which is between the slopes of Sas dla Crusc and path 13-15 towards the Armentara meadows.

It is precisely in this period that you can admire the colours of the Ladin flag come to life: the white of the snow, the green of the lush meadows and the blue of the clear sky.

If you want to let go of all tension, only a few steps from our hotel you will find a forest-bathed path of Shinrin yoku (forest bath), for a rejuvenating experience in direct contact with the woods.

What to do:

During the summer, La Val, a hiking village since 2015, offers a wealth of outdoor activities. Directly accessed from our hotel are panoramic paths that can be covered on foot or by mountain bike. These lead to the Fanes Senes Braies Natural Park, the Armentara meadows, the Sass dales Nü (Cima Nove) and the Crusc de Rit.

Longer days allow you to enjoy the sun and fresh air, a real treat for nature lovers and hikers. At the reception we will be happy to advise you on our favourite scenic routes amongst some of the most beautiful mountains in the world: Cima Nove and Dieci of the Monte Croce Massif, Sass de Putia and Pares.

Motorcycle lovers, much like us at the Ciurnadú hotel, will enjoy the famous tour of the 4 Dolomite Passes and the countless surrounding passes, as well as other itineraries. These are certainly some of the most evocative emotions for two-wheel enthusiasts.

If you want to discover the local culture, visit the Museum Ladin Ciastel De Tor (Ladin Museum ) in San Martino in Badia, the Val Di Murins with its mills, the Museum Ursus Ladinicus dedicated to the prehistoric bear of the Dolomites and the birthplace of the missionary Ojöp Freinademetz in the hamlet of Oies.

In July take part in the Tru di Pra hiking marathon along the meadows of Rit and Armentara while enjoying  the views and tasting typical local products at the food stations.

What to do:

In autumn, walks through the meadows of Armentara, Rit and Chi Jus are ideal for you to admire the foliage of the woods which transforms the mountains into an open-air painting with shades of red, yellow and orange.

In less than an hour’s drive from Ciurnadu, for a day trip, you can reach some of the most famous panoramic Dolomite destinations: Lake Braies (the pearl of the alpine lakes with its crystal clear water), the Three Peaks of Lavaredo (the symbol of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site, not far from Lake Misurina and the village of Auronzo di Cadore), Mount Seceda in Val Gardena (one of the most photographed places in the Dolomites).

What to do:

From December to April, skiing fun is guaranteed with exciting descents and breathtaking landscapes here in Alta Badia. If, on the other hand, you want to go on a family outing, ask for a toboggan in our hotel and walk up the Rit – Biei toboggan run.

The location of Mountain Lodge Ciurnadù is really very convenient: 3 minutes walk from the ski bus stop, 12 km from the ski areas in Alta Badia and the Sellaronda, and 8 km from the Piccolino ski lift that will take you to the top of Plan de Corones.

If you practice cross-country skiing, not far from our hotel, you will find the Armentara slope in Furnacia (6 km). Alternatively, after just 20 minutes by car, you will be in cross-country skiing areas such as San Cassiano in Armentarola (18 km) or between the villages of Corvara and Colfosco.

For a walk in the snow, rent snowshoes at our hotel and, directly outside the hotel take path 15 towards the slopes of Sass dla Crusc and path 15A towards the Santa Croce Sanctuary.
